- Principal photography begins on Secret Agent, starring John Gielgud, Peter Lorre, Madeleine Carroll and Robert Young.[1]
November
- With filming on Secret Agent falling behind schedule, John Gielgud has to juggle filming insert shots and starring alongside Laurence Olivier in Romeo and Juliet on the London stage.[2]
- Principal photography commences on Sabotage, starring Sylvia Sidney, Oskar Homolka and John Loder.
December
- Filming on Sabotage is completed.[3]
- Gaumont British announces a series of cost cutting measures, resulting in the firing of Hitchcock's friends Ivor Montague and Michael Balcon. Edward "Ted" Black is brought in to replace Balcon.[4]
- The Hitchcocks, along with Joan Harrison and Charles Bennett, spend Christmas holiday in St. Moritz. Whilst they are there, a telegram arrives from Myron Selznick offering Bennett a job in Hollywood and he accepts.[5]
