"The Farmer's Wife" Film.

I hear that the producers of the forthcoming film version of "The Farmer's Wife" are searching diligently for real Devon "types," and that Mr. Eden Phillpotts is himself assisting them. He has also personally chosen the locations for the film. "The Farmer's Wife," which had such a long and successful run at the Court Theatre, should have a wonderful reception when it eventually reaches its native county, and many thousands of people who never had an opportunity to see the play will see the film at their local kinemas. It will have the added advantage of being played against a background of Devon scenery instead of in the artificial surroundings of the theatre. Mr. Cedric Hardwick, who created the part of Churdles Ash in the stage version, is to enact the same role, but I have not yet heard who the other actors will be. Perhaps some of them will be chosen from among the Devonians whom Mr. Phillpotts discovers in his search for native talent. The film is to be produced by Mr. Alfred Hitchcock, who is eminently suited to the task, and in his hands "The Farmer's Wife" will lose little of the subtle humour which so delighted the audiences at the Court.
