Hitchcock designer Dorthea Redmond dies
A private funeral was held for longtime Hollywood illustrator and production designer Dorothea Holt Redmond, who died last month at age 98, her daughter said.
Lynne Jackson told the Los Angeles Times that Redmond died of heart failure at her Hollywood Hills home Feb. 27.
Redmond worked as an illustrator on several of Alfred Hitchcock's films and on such Golden Age classics as "Gone with the Wind" and "The Ten Commandments."
Her task was to produce drawings of the director's vision that were used by set designers and camera operators to capture not only the correct image but the lighting as well.
"Her watercolor sketches were extraordinary place-making," Marty Sklar of Walt Disney Imagineering said last year when Redmond was named a Disney Legend for her work with The Walt Disney Co.
Jackson said her mom loved to work with Hitchcock, although she received the cold shoulder from some of her male colleagues after she broke into the picture business during the late 1930s.
