Programme Description

Francine Stock visits the Beverly Hills home of Ronald Neame, who has recently celebrated his 95th birthday. Neame discusses his long career that began in 1929 on the first British talking movie, Blackmail, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, his collaboration with David Lean that produced such classics as Brief Encounter, Great Expectations and Oliver Twist, the challenge of directing Judy Garland's final screen role in I Could go on Singing, his nurturing of acting talent such as Alec Guinness and Maggie Smith, and of course Shelley Winter's Oscar winning underwater dash in The Poseidon Adventure.
