Stage Actors' Work

British Producers are experiencing what America went through years ago in learning that few stage players are of any use in motion pictures. One phase of the production boom has been the heavy recruiting of legitimate stars, but already these show signs of failure. While critics are nominating has-beens and titled actors for the roles, the real work in the studios is being done by those who have fought their way through the extra-line.

Alfred Hitchcock has made one excellent 'discovery' already in "The Ring," which represents the present peak of English production quality. He is Charles Terry, who has done crowd-work in films for years and has never, been on the, stage at all.
