Strangers on a Train
Alfred Hitchcock; USA 1951; Warner/Region 2; Certificate PG; Two-sided format: side A: Hollywood version, 97 minutes; side B: British version, 99 minutes; Aspect Ratio 1.33:1; Features: scene access, trailer, Hitchcock newsreel footage *
Includes two versions of the film, the second a pre-release British print approximately two minutes longer than the US one. Surprisingly, there's no contextualising information to explain where the British print came from or why Hitchcock changed the film. The variations occur in the scene in which Guy visits Bruno's house by dead of night (in the UK version we see him taking a map out of a drawer whereas in the Hollywood version all he takes is the gun) and right at the end, where the UK version omits the pipe-smoking priest on the train.
