Lorna Doone
Transatlantic Pictures announced their plans to adapt R.D. Blackmore 1869 novel Lorna Doone in the late 1940s. However, producer Edward Small had previously registered the film title in the U.S. and told Hitchcock he would not be able to release his version in America as Lorna Doone.
In October 1948, the New York Times reported that Small had approached the British Rank Organisation and an agreement had been made to being filming in March 1949 in order to beat Transatlantic Pictures into production.[1] Small's adaptation which was eventually released in 1951, starring Barbara Hale and Richard Greene.[2]
