Limehouse is a district in East London, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is on the northern bank of the River Thames opposite Rotherhithe and between Ratcliff to the west and Millwall to the east.
The district became a significant port in late medieval times, with extensive docks and wharves.
The Regent's Canal Dock (now known as Limehouse Basin) was opened in 1820 and provided a navigable link between the River Thames and the Regent's Canal.
