Lewis Brody

Biography

Born M'bebe Mpessa in the former German African colony of Kamerun, as Lewis (sometimes Louis) Brody he established himself as a leading black actor by the late 1910s. Exoticism was an important part of German Weimar Cinema and Brody frequently played roles as an African tribesman or North African moor. He continued acting into the sound era and also pursued a career in the Berlin music halls as a singer, dancer and musician.[1]

Brody appeared briefly in an uncredited role in Hitchcock's debut feature film The Pleasure Garden (1925).
