John Dall
Biography
John Dall was an American stage and screen actor.
Primarily a stage actor, he is best remembered today for two film roles; the cool-minded intellectual killer in Alfred Hitchcock's film Rope, and the trigger-happy lead in the 1950 noir Gun Crazy. He also had a substantial role in Stanley Kubrick's film Spartacus.
According to biographer Patrick McGilligan, after failing to persuade Cary Grant and Montgomery Clift to play a one of the killers in Rope, Hitchcock turned to the Oscar-nominated Dall, who was also a regular diner at two of the director's favourite Hollywood restaurants, Chasen's and Romanoff's.
Dall died in Hollywood, California, aged 52.
