Hitchcock Family Addresses

Alfred Hitchcock's early life is relatively under-documented and details of where the Hitchcock family lived is contradictory in the Hitchcock biographies.

The purpose of this page is to list the historical records of names and addresses relating to Alfred Hitchcock's intimidate family, including his in-laws, uncles, aunts and cousins (the exact relationship to the director is shown in square brackets and the names as given on the source are used). Sources used include Census returns, birth and marriage certificates, telephone and business directories.

By the early 1920s, Uncle John's company John Hitchcock Ltd., Fishmongers & Poulterers has expanded and taken over many of his sibling's shops. As these were then listed under the company name, it is uncertain from the telephone directory if any family members were actually living in any of the properties, so they are not listed.

Unless specified, telephone directories are those created for London and all addresses are in London.

There is a telephone directory entry in October 1921 for "Hitchcock, fishmongers & poulterers" at 212 North End Road, W.14, but it is uncertain which Hitchcock (if any) is residing there. The lack of other previous entries for Alfred Hitchcock's uncles suggests that the John Hitchcock Ltd company is in the process of being formed.

It was demolished in the 1930s, according to Tea with Einstein and Other Memories (2006) by William Frankel. The houses were small 2 room terrace cottages (one downstairs room and an upstairs bedroom) and mostly populated by immigrants.
