Untitled Gene Kelly project (1941)
(Redirected from Gene Kelly)
Dancer Gene Kelly had become a hot property on Broadway by 1940 and he was eventually persuaded to sign a film contract with David O. Selznick.
With Kelly due into Hollywood in October 1941, Selznick began trying to find a suitable picture for the dancer to star in. During August and September 1941, Variety reported that Alfred Hitchcock would be directing Kelly's first film for Selznick International.[1][2]
Ultimately, Selznick was unable to find a suitable project and instead sold half of Kelly's contract to MGM. Kelly went on to star in several MGM classics, including On the Town (1949), An American in Paris (1951) and Singin' in the Rain (1952).
