Abstract
Gottlieb talks about the interview of François Truffaut with Alfred Hitchcock. The landmark text in this process is Truffaut's Hitchcock, assembled out of material generated by a week-long series of conversations between them in August 1962, aimed at surveying Hitchcock's life's work with an eye toward revealing his essential thoughts on "how to express oneself by purely visual means". People know "the hitchbook," as Truffaut called it, in its published form, released in English in 1967 and then in revised and expanded form in 1983, incorporating new material on Hitchcock's last films riot covered in the initial interviews.
