Emelka Studios, Germany
(Redirected from Emelka)
Münchner Lichtspielkunst AG, founded in 1919 and known as Emelka, was a film studio located in Geiselgasteig, on the outskirts of Munich, as a rival to the Ufa studio in Berlin. Unlike Ufa, which had gained a reputation for artistic films, Emelka concentrated on producing mass-market entertainment films.
The studio is now known as Bavaria Film AG.
Gainsborough-Emelka
In 1924, Michael Balcon organised a five-film partnership between Gainsborough and Emelka. The first two co-productions marked the full directing debut of Alfred Hitchcock:
- The Pleasure Garden (1925)
- The Mountain Eagle (1926)
