CINEMA STRIKE

WORK ON NEW FILM STILL HELD UP

Work on the British film, "Lost Lady," at the Gainsborough Film Studios, Islington, was again at a standstill today because of the strike of electricians and operators.

Mr. Alfred Hitchcock is directing the film, and the cast includes Dame May Whitty, Miss Margaret Lockwood, Mr. Michael Redgrave, and Mr. Paul Lukas.

Forty electricians are on strike at the Islington Studios and another 20 at the Gaumont British Studios at Shepherd's Bush, where some of the scenes in "Lost Lady" are being made. Only those electricians who have contracts have remained at work with the consent of the E.T.U.

Pickets were posted outside the Gainsborough Studios at Islington today.

Mr. F. Tilley, of the London Branch of the Cinematograph Exhibitors' Association, made the following statement on behalf of the branch: "Today's reports show that the strike of the operators is practically over. The men are gradually returning to work, and members of the London Branch of the C.E.A have been advised to re-engage such men because it is realised that, the strike was the result of misguided action on the part of the Electrical Trades Union."

Mr. A. W. Coster, Area Organiser of the E.T.U., stated that the position had not altered to any material extent.

The strike of more than 300 operators in Manchester and South-East Lancashire was continued today with little prospect of an early settlement.
