The Paradine Case (1947)
In May 1946, Alfred Hitchcock briefly toured parts of Cumbria with unit manager Fred Ahern whilst scouting for locations that could be used the The Paradine Case (1947). The locations selected were then later filmed by a second unit using a stand-in double for Gregory Peck.
Amongst the locations used were:
- Rydal Water
- Coniston
- Braithwaite Station — partly recreated on the studio sound stage, this was used for Hitchcock's cameo appearance in the film
- Barngates — location of the Station Hotel
- Langdale Chase, Windermere — used for the exteriors of Hindley Hall
