Claude Lane, San Francisco, California
Hitchcock's Films
Vertigo (1958)
The back alley where Madeleine parks to visit the Podesta Baldocchi florist shop.
The location was chosen purely for its aesthetic value and the alley doorway seen in the film doesn't link to the flower shop, which was located in a neighbouring block. In the film, Scottie and Madeleine are seen turning into a narrow alley next to 214 Grant Avenue, between Post Street and Sutter Street, and careful editing gave the illusion that the alley (now known as "Ashburton") and Claude Lane were one and the same.[1]
Location filming took place on Thursday 3rd October, 1957.[2]
