Benn W. Levy
Biography
Benn Wolfe Levy was a Labour Party Member of Parliament in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. He was educated at Repton School and University College, Oxford and served in uniform in both World Wars.
Outside politics, Levy was a successful playwright who also wrote, and on occasion directed, for the movies. His breakthrough came in 1926 when his comedy This Woman Business was produced at the Haymarket, London, starring Fay Compton and Leon Quartermaine — the pair also appeared in J.M. Barrie's Mary Rose the same year.
Levy provided dialogue for the sound version of Hitchcock's Blackmail (1929) for British International Pictures. Hitchcock's final film for the studio saw him producing Levy's adaptation of Lord Camber's Ladies (1933).
After standing down as an MP in the 1950 general election, the writer worked again with Hitchcock in the 1960s on the director's Kaleidoscope Frenzy project.
