Battersea Power Station, London
Battersea Power Station is a decommissioned coal-fired power station located on the south bank of the River Thames, in Battersea, an inner-city district of South West London. The station ceased generating electricity in 1983, but over the past 50 years it has become one of the best known landmarks in London.
Hitchcock's Films
Sabotage (1936)
The opening sequence in the film includes an act of sabotage at the power station, although Hitchcock used a studio model rather than the real building.[1]
Author Gary Giblin has speculated that Hitchcock was inspired to add the scene — which doesn't appear in Joseph Conrad's source novel — from the Bulldog Drummond novel "The Black Gang", which includes a plot to blow up a power station.[2]
